First Friday Forum:  Internal Family Systems Through a Cultural Lens

This program will be held virtually via Zoom. Details with instruction on how to view the webinar will be sent to all registrants the day before the program (2/1).

Program: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This session is at the intermediate level and is designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals.

Friday Forums are cosponsored with the Metropolitan State University Psychology Department.

This program qualifies for 3.0 continuing education credits. Attendees must attend entire session to gain credit. Registration fee includes access to live webinar, program agenda, program PowerPoint, and continuing education certificate. 

A presentation will follow the First Friday Forum honoring Lolita King-Bethel, Ph.D., LP, with the John M. Taborn Award for Outstanding Contributions to Psychology by a Person of African Descent.  You do not have to be registered for the First Friday Forum to attend the awards program.  To RSVP, please email: [email protected].

About the Program:
The Internal Family Systems Model (IFS) Through A Cultural Lens (IFS) is an integrative approach to individual psychotherapy. It combines system thinking with the view that the mind is made up of relatively discrete subpersonalities, each with its own unique viewpoint and qualities. IFS uses systems psychology, particularly as developed for family therapy, to understand how these collections of subpersonalities are organized. We will examine Through A Cultural Lens.

This program qualifies for 3.0 continuing education credits. Attendees must attend the entire session to gain credit. Registration fee includes access to live webinar, program agenda, program PowerPoint, and continuing education certificate. 

Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the Internal Family Systems Model (IFS) through Cultural Lense Psycho-Social Identity.
  2. Describe tools to structure intervention with supportive tools to explore Legacy Burdens/Historical Trauma impact on Psychosocial Identity.
  3. Review Power and privilege dynamics.
  4. Describe Therapist Non-Judgmental/Non-Pathologizing Stance. 

About the Presenter:
Steven Cambrice, M.S., LMFT received his master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Wisconsin–Stout and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with expertise in providing therapeutic services to youth and families. He specializes in providing culturally responsive care to individuals impacted by trauma within the African American community. Steven has worked in a variety of settings including day treatment, school-based mental health, community mental health, and private practice. Steven is a dynamic speaker with specific interests in treating trauma through the integration of Internal Family Systems and Heart-Focused interventions/technology.

The speaker has indicated no conflicts of interest to report.

The Minnesota Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Minnesota Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

REFUND POLICY: A 100% refund will be made if the event is cancelled. Refunds, less a $5 handling fee, will be given if a written cancellation is received at least two working days before the scheduled program begins. No refund or transfer is given the day of the program.
