1)      What is your background in psychology (e.g., education)?

I did my undergraduate studies at Gustavus Adolphus College in which I received my B.A. in Psychology.  Afterwards, I attended the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology.  I graduated in 2012 with my doctorate in clinical psychology and became licensed in October of 2013.

2)      Describe your current occupation and any involvement in the Minnesota Psychological Association if applicable.

I am currently working as a Licensed Psychologist at Metropolitan Rehabilitation Services in Minneapolis.  We primarily conduct forensic vocational rehabilitation assessments.  In addition, we evaluate for Learning Disabilities and ADHD.  I also am the Co-Chair of the New Psychologist Network for the Minnesota Psychological Association.

3)      What inspired you to pursue a degree in psychology?

As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to volunteer at an alternative high school where I ran a mentorship program for at risk youth.  During these meetings we discussed a wide variety of topics including career choices, racism, hygiene, and bullying.  I loved working with the students and realized that I wanted to continue my education.  In the beginning of grad school I thought that I primarily wanted to have a career providing therapy but after my assessment practicum and working as a psychometrist, I realized that I wanted to focus on psychological assessment.

4)      Why did you join the Minnesota Psychological Association?

I joined MPA because I felt that it was important to become connected with other psychologists at various levels.  In addition, I believe that with the DSM-V and the Affordable Care Act, this is a critical time for psychologists to become politically involved.

5)      What do you hope to learn/gain from your new membership?

As a new psychologist, I hope that I will be able to learn from other psychologists about how they have navigated the field.  One of the greatest experiences I had in graduate school was having a mentor, Dr. Nicholas Griffith, who helped me develop professionally and personally.  I think that as a new psychologist it is invaluable to connect with more experienced clinicians.

6)      Any outside hobbies/interests you do not mind sharing?

In my free time I like to spend time with my wife and daughter, play broomball, cross country ski, kayak, workout, and see my friends.  Generally, I love to be outdoors so anytime I can be outside I will take it.
